Explore Europe by Train with an Euro Pass
If you are planning a trip to Europe the cheapest and most convenient way to get around is by train. All of the major cities are connected by high speed rail service which will drop you right off in the city center. Eurail select passes, also know as Euro Pass, can be purchased for unlimited travel on national rail networks to up to five bordering countries.
The high speed trains which travel through Europe can reach speeds of up to 198 miles per hour and in many cases will get to their destinations quicker than travelling by air. When you factor in the time necessary for airport check-in and transfers, you will find that rail service is just as fast. A trip from London to Paris will take 2 hours and 15 minutes while going from Paris to Amsterdam can be completed in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Other advantages of travelling by rail; there are no baggage fees, no extra cost to take a taxi from the airport into town and trains in Europe have an on-time percentage of more than 90% while planes are on time for less than 70% of all flights.
The Euro pass is offered by Rail Europe which has deals with the national rail networks serving 24 different countries across Europe. The pass is not only good for taking the international trips but also allows you access to local, suburban and regional trains which operate in the country you have chosen to travel to. In some cases, there may be surcharges added on to your trip if you are travelling on a sleeper train or making a premium daytime trip. The Eurail pass can be booked for travel to 3, 4 or 5 border countries that are connected by train or ship and are good for from 5 up to 15 days. The purchase price for the top ticket with unlimited travel to 5 countries over 15 days is approximately $1000 for an adult and $500 for a child. A 5 day pass to 5 countries sells for approximately $500; there are also youth fares for people between the ages of 12-25.
The choice of countries for travel across Europe by train using Euro Pass include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
